About The Artist.
Hello.
My name is Julia and I was born in 1987 in Belarus and grew up in Russia. In 2013, I moved to Norway and have been living here on the coast with my husband and little son since then.
I am a self-taught artist. I have always been creative and liked drawing. But unfortunately, I never seriously went to an art school. Except taking some art classes when I was eight years old, and some workshops in adulthood. Black and white portrait drawings were the beginning of my art journey. But slowly and gradually, abstraction took over me.
Now I paint loosely and expressively. The painting process for me, is like a spiritual practice, like dynamic meditation. In order to truly express myself I need to switch of my chattering mind and follow my intuition, allowing it to paint. It is as if my subsequent action is pulled out, not from my intellect or some kind of “I know what I am doing attitude”, but rather from the momentum, impulse or instinct.
My goal is to convey to the viewer the moment of presence in which the act of painting is made. It is almost like an attempt to express the inexpressible, or to make the invisible visible. And ultimately, it is all about the energy.
Color and texture are of great importance to me. I love beautiful colors and colors that are pleasing to the eyes.Through the colors, I want to convey peace and tranquillity.
Nature and everything that is able to move me are my inspirations for my paintings. But what gives me true strength to continue doing art is a great desire to explore that place of myself from where the art is created.
Acrylic paint is my favorite and I enjoy working with various mediums, such as modeling paste, to create texture. I use all sorts of tools, such as brushes and palette knives. But also everything that I can find at home or in the garage that can be useful to make a unique mark. And I love applying paint with my fingers.
My artworks have been sold to private collectors both locally and internationally. My paintings can be found in Norway, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Netherlands, and New Zealand.
